zones-world SQL is missing

i'm looking for a way to add the states and provinces for multiple countries at once. my default installation of 1.3.5 has the US states and Canadian provinces, as well as zones for Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. (not sure why only those 4 European countries...)

anyway, in the "zones" download section, there are several contributions covering one country at a time. there's also a "zones-world" contribution, but i think it's incomplete.

the zones-world contribution's readme file is mostly about zones-world v1.0. near the bottom, it mentions zones-world-v1.0b, a "minor update to the zones-world v1.0 module".

the few files included in the contribution only make sense as an update. there's no SQL file included. i don't think v1.0b was a full fileset, but no other files are currently available, as far as i can tell.

could someone please update this contribution page, or at least add the SQL file? i don't need it to calculate shipping prices, just to autopopulate the state/province field...

the contribution support thread is less than helpful on this point.

no luck, huh.

anyway, i found the OSC world-zones folder hanging around my desktop from back before i switched to zen. so i opened the SQL file and read it and it looked benign enough to try.

first i backed up the database in admin-->tools, then went to tools-->install SQL patches and cut-and-pasted the world_zones.sql file.

seems to have done the trick. i don't know how perfectly up-to-date the values are, but it looks good so far.

also, i'd removed about 2/3rds of the countries in the zen default list. this has added a full list of zones to the 50 or so countries remaining, without (as far as i can tell) interfering with anything else.

i'd attach the file here but it's too big for the attachment limit. luckily it's not hard to find on the OSCommerce contributions page (i used v1.9)...

hmm, not so fast. the new SQL table seems to be incompatible with our existing customers zones. so it re-assigned our customers to new states and provinces.

luckily we only have a handful of trial customers at this point. we're not open yet. so i just went through the admin and re-edited the customer profiles.

new customers (dummy accounts i've just tried tonight) seem to be registering okay.

so if you want to try this, better try it before registering any real customers.
