Default drop down menu for categories...

How would I go about having a dropdown menu for my categories if I wanted one similar to this.....

My shopping cart is going super slow & I can hardly stand it, I figure at least this might help for people trying to look at products..... (I can't stand when stores are slow and i'm sitting there a few seconds in between every click...I like instantaneous )

Create your subcategories, then in Admin, go to Configuration/Layout Settings and you'll find a whole bunch of category options.

... though sadly none of these options would turn the categories sidebox into a drop down menu. To do this you would need to make changes to the modules/sideboxes/categories.php and templates/sideboxes/tpl_categories.php files using the equivalents for manufactuers as your model.

Apologies to all - I didn't get the question -

... but your point was still valid. There are a lot of things on the page you referenced that can done to influence how the category sidebox works and they are certainly worth exploring.

well i haven't the slightest clue when it comes to php, but i really would like to get this into a dropdown. I just think it will look better if i just have "shop by category" and "shop by brand" in dropdown menus. I know how to do a css dropdown that would look exactly how i want... but other than that, I am lost.

You can use the Manufacturers Sidebox as a dropdown by configuring it in the Admin and a top level categories box is being worked on at the moment.

i don't see why i can't just do a simple html drop down like this....(but of course with all the < &>)

    select style="background-color: FFFFFF; color: 000000; width: 200; ">
    option> option 1</option
    option> option 2</option
    option> option 3</option

and just manually put in the links, yeah it's a pain, but i have no other option at the moment...

BUT then again i don't know php and how exactly this zencart stuff works.
    my knowledge ends at css/html
