Glad I was able to help. I still overlook the obvious on a daily basis. I'm glad someone had the verbal know-how to name it "Zen-Cart" -- reminds me to keep my mind in beginner's mode.

My issue is, I want to keep my right global column on but when i do, the search shows up there also. what code do i place in my tpl_header so i can keep the search box there aqnd keep my right column on without showing the search box in the right column.

    Thanks,

Can you tell me where in the tpl_header.php you pasted the code to make search box work in the header??

There was nothing to paste. Solution is in the ensuing posts:
In Layout boxes controller, search_header.php should have Left/Right column status set to off and Single column status set to on. And (to remove the search sidebox) make sure you have search.php set to off for both Left/Right column status and Single column status.

I tried that, it made the search box disappear alltogether...

I'm trying to move the search box to the empty space under the "Account Login/Register...etc" box in the top RH corner. Check it out here http://www.thriftytots.ca

Thanks for the link: I see what you mean now.

    Zen-Cart has two Search elements.
    • search_header.php -- When enabled in Layout Boxes Controller, this displays in the page header -- next to the Home and Log-in links.
    • search.php -- When enabled in Layout Boxes Controller, this displays a sidebox.
When I look at your site, I notice the customary Home and Log-in links are missing from your page header. Is it possible this entire section was removed from your custom template, and with it, the code for displaying the search_header?

Compare your custom header template to the default header template. In the default, look for class="headerNavigation" -- then copy and paste as necessary so that the search_header appears in your custom header template.

    Ok so my,

search.php is set to OFF 0 0 OFF yet it still is showing up on the right hand side.

Can you tell me what the issue might be on why it's not updating?

Check the settings on the search_header.php sidebox ... make sure you do not have anything enabled for the right column ...
