Default Stopped before I could start, index.php not found - Dreamhost Problem

Ok, I know a little about FTP, etc. but nothing about Zencart so please be kind.
Installed just fine until I got to the point in installation when I would open the Admin area.

Message returned is that the file ....index.php was not found. But it is looking in the zc_install directory that I was instructed to delete the step before so that a reinstall could not mistakenly occur.

There IS a index.php file in the Admin sub-directory in the main zencart directory.

The URL format seems to show up incorrectly when I click the link to open the Admin area and if I edit the URL to just show domain/zencart/index.php the cart does show up and I'm in as a guest. Clicking the link to log in results in a connection refused message.

I'm going to guess that I haven't given enough information but hopefully it's a start. Any help is greatly appreciated since I still have major database work to do to "convert" my oversized Filemaker database to work with the cart.

    Seems daunting!

Try reuploading the files via FTP, perhaps you have some bad files.

    Thanks, that was quick.

Been trying a few things inclduing editing the admin/includes/congifure.php file to change the SSL settings from "true" to "false" as I've seen in many other posts but no luck. Don't think there are bad files and installation was done via "one-click" throough Dreamhost so no individual files to fool with save for what are already loaded.

Demo store is there but just can't get into admin still.

Just to prove I'm not nuts (about this at least!). Here is the section just above the link to click to open the store or admin (both of which don't work by the way since they direct to the previously deleted directory (/zc_intall). Again, I can get into the store just by hand entering the URL.

    FROM INSTALL:
    NEXT STEPS
For security, you will need to reset your configure.php files located in the /admin/includes/ and /includes/ folders back to read-only mode before allowing people to access your store.

Additionally, you'll want to remove or rename the /zc_install folder so that someone can't re-install your shop again and wipe out your database! Warnings will appear until the folder has been removed or renamed.

Dreamhost? Might do a search for them and read of other folks experiences.

Thanks again, been there done that. I actually try and not get others involved until I've exhausted my options.

I've now been able to get to the login screen and the problem appears like it might be sonme confrguration but what the file is I couldn't begin to guess.

Briefly, clicking to navigate seems to add to the URL making it bogus.

Heres what happens when I login in as Admin (which I got to finally by editing the URL)
    http://www.mydomain.com/zencart/admi...dmin/login.php

Of course when I edit it down to /zencart/admini/login.php I get there but clicking to log in results in the same "bad" URL again.

I've worked with CGI a little so it seem like a configuration setting that sets the additional path in the URL that is generated.

Getting closer......I think. Ring any bells!

Just like my CGI experiences, hunting and pecking seems to be the only way to learn.

I'm into the configu.php file now and it appears to be a path issue. Edited it so that I can now get into the Admin area cleanily.

Thanks Kim for the help. Stick around!

Just about ready to can things but now my interest is up and though I dread a complete redesign I trust it will be worth it.

Lots of config files out there.

Got a lot working but can't seem to find the config file that controls the URL from category links on the demo catalog page. Tried everything in Admin/includes/config.php (I think!) but still have same problem I had above and consequently solved by editing this file.

Can anyone point me to the right path for a config file that handles the construction of the URLs created when clicking on category links on the catalog?

Post your includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php minus your passwords.

Would you mind telling us *how* you solved the problems?
