I don't have a merchant account yet. Does Ashop Commerce shopping cart software require this to start selling?
There is no need for a merchant account when using Ashop Commerce to start your store. Ashop Commerce software is fully interfaced with Pay Pal, WorldPay and many other systems. If we are not already integrated with your choice of payment system we will have it ready ASAP.
If you wish to accept credit cards without a 3rd party payment processing company you will need a merchant account. Over 85% of all online purchases are made with credit cards, we strongly recommend you accept them when starting out.
Ashop Commerce is directly integrated with most major banks where available so there is no need for a gateway, however, we are also integrated with all of the major and reputable gateway providers.

They charge 100$ per month for this service which is integrated with hosting costs etc. and ameriolates the need for an individual merchant account on the website itself as ashop absorb the costs associated with the online cart.
Is there something similar planned as part of the strategic development of the zencart solution?
