Default Simple Zen template and icons

Greetings all. I have been playing with the "Simple Zen" template. When you look at it in the Zen Cart templates website http://(sorry, site offline)/1302/in...dir=simple_zen, there are three icons for shopping cart, contact us and my account.

When I downloaded the template, these icons aren't present. Can anyone tell me where these might be, or how I may create/insert them?

    Thanks!

These apparent icons are actually a single background with links overlaid on top. You should find the background image topnav.gif in the templates images folder.

Thanks for this follow up. I see topnav.gif in the images folder. Can you tell me which file this gif should be located in? I did a search in the developers tool kit, and didn't find it anywhere. Thanks!

topnav.gif doesn't need to be located in any file. It stays in the images folder and is pulled down to the vistors browser and positioned on the page by the stylesheet.

Now I see. Thanks so much for your help. I had been inserting the header.php file in the wrong subfolder.

At the risk of being really annoying , can I ask you three more questions?

    1) When I tried to use the images for shopping cart, etc., I had a problem in IE where the images didn't all link, and there were words underneath that didn't line up with their appropriate image. Do you know how to fix this?

    2) How do I reduce the padding on the homepage, so that I can insert larger images and reduce white space? I couldn't figure out which css characteristic this would be.

    3) In ie, I have some extra white space around the "faded line" images. How do I eliminate that?

Just so you can see what I'm working with (and this is obviously still a work in progress), here it is: http://www.jessweiss.com/sportsmaster/store/

Again, all of your help is so appreciated.

I think that you're talking here about a problem that is referenced in another thread about using this template with IE. I'm sorry but I wouldn't want to get between the designer and bug fixes or IE workarounds (more likely since jettrue's work generally looks pretty good to me)

The padding is coming from your left and right columns which you have turned on in the Admin section but empty. So they're taking up space. You can turn them off by going to Admin > Configuration > Layout Settings and setting lines 13 and 14 to 0.

This is happening because what you have in your center column is too big to fit there with your two invisible columns. FF and IE respond differently, FF allows the right hand column to overflow your layout. IE makes your layout wider to accommodate it and you run out of image in your header. To cut a long story short, the solution to 2) above will solve this too.

And to wrap up your earlier questions ... jettrue has just posted an answer to what I think you may have been asking in 1) here
