Hiding products?

Client has a "kit" that contains many different things. The sale price is rather high, so the idea came up to sell it in phases or parts.

Catch is, they don't want the parts to show up in the catalog -- just when you visit the main kit page, it will have links to the separate items. There should be no other way to see them.

Does that make sense? How would I do something like this?

Any ideas on this? I'm trying to prevent certain products from showing up in the catalog, but still be orderable by linking directly to them.

Set phases or parts as attributes.
And give links which refer to each phases or parts, the attribute, in the product descriptions.

The links can be linked to another pages for detail.
Such as the discussions in topic below.
