exclude attribute prices from coupon discounts?

I have a cart that has a product that you can add a fan to when adding it to cart via an attribute. I have a coupon that takes 20% off that product. Only problem is, the coupon also takes it off the fan as well.

Is there anyway to exclude the attribute from the coupon discount? I know that you can from Sale/Special pricing but can find no way to exclude it from coupon discounts . . .
