    Default Checkout without Login

I'd like to give people the option of not becoming a member, but still going through checkout.

I'm not really technical, I've figured out how to work admin, upload, css, etc, pretty darn well, but I can't like, modify php documents myself.

Is there a simple add-on (module?) to help me do this?

    Hi there
I think it might be important to point out to you customers that becoming a member:
    - requires no more work then not doing it (you still need shipping details etc.)
    - allows your customers to logon and trace orders, view previous purchases etc.
    - reduces info required for every subsequent order since details are already on file
    - they do not have to subscribe to your mailing list

This is a key feature that we had with a OScommerce mod and that comes with CRE loaded. We sell lots of small items, and its great to let customers purhchase those items without having to become members. The oscommerce mod allowed the the guest to become a member after the order was placed.

Many large scale online shops do this. Did you get anywhere with the zencart mod?

Idea or Suggestion Re: Checkout without Login

I have had the same question as apinkpony11 and agree with kam on this. I love Zen-Cart, and am excited to release my site this week. However the market I am going after (50 yrs +) does not, for the most part, see the advantages to creating a login. I do, and will try to educate them on the advantages as mentioned by wolfsz, but I would like to think Zen-Cart is looking deeper into this. I do a lot of work with an online CRM, and they have an new idea web-site in which it's customers can come up with ideas and vote on them base on what the community needs and wants. Does Zen-Cart have anything like that? Thanks!

I sell to allot of 50 and over on ebay. They can't make a purchase there unless they setup an account and then have to login just to make a bid, or a buy it now.

If they want your products they will create the account. Having an ez-page about the why you require a login, and the benefits of them, plus the fact that you have a secure site, should put them at ease.

Also, don't make allot of requirements. Defiantly don't make date of birth requirement. If you can avoid it, don't ask for the CVV. But many gateways are now asking for it.

My wife wanted me to take the login off as well, but hey, I'm getting sales on the dang thing before I even finished it, and I had it slightly hidden with a index.html page refreshing them to my ebay store. So I have a feeling you won't have as big of a problem as you're thinking.

Also, I want to know who's doing the ordering anyway. It's for the customers protection as much as for mine.

Our store has been up for about three years, about 4 months with zencart. We have lost about 30 or so orders a week on average (our sales have dropped, and it is particularly less orders for one item specifically) because we now require a login, which may not seem like a lot, but it's enough.

We offer a few small items that people buy when they first start a military or police academy and usually never again. They like our prices, but they also like the anonymity and ease of not having to create an account for a single $7 item.

We get a few calls and e-mail a week asking if they can order without creating an account, and we take the order by phone, which works, but takes more time.

I have seen a "hack" that actually creates an account, but doesn't require an e-mail, which is not useful. We, of course, require an e-mail to send an order acknowledgment and a tracking number if they order express. We used to send a "Sign up Now for these features" text at the bottom of the confirmation e-mail.

I wish I had the time to get a real order with creating account mod working on zen cart, perhaps in May or June during my slow summer season.

Some one has completed the no log in check out thing, and a few of us are testing it, so far feedback has been good. Do a search. You should be able to find it.

Hi I have been a user of zencart for some time, maybe a year. I would recommend that if you have NOT started, ie, you dont have a customer base, you might as well start is OsC instead. Because they have a more complete solution. Some of the ZC stuffs are ported over from OsC. I am already deep into ZC with a customer base and its harder for me to convert with all the database and technical conversion.
