Remove Lines from Sub Cat

Is it possible to remove the Vertical & Horizontal lines that appear in front of the sub categories?

You sure can. Go into Admin-Configuration-Layout Settings;

`Categories Separator between the Category Name and Sub Categories: set spaces or whatever you wish, instead of the default characters.
