Considering switching to Zen cart

Hi, i've been reading up about Zen Cart for awhile and was thinking to use it's core engine to propel our shopping cart system. My only question is if Zen Cart has been used by extremely high traffic websites before and how it's able to handle it. Can it handle let's say 500 transactions a day? with as much as 20,000 visitors a day?

I have two dedicated servers, one acting as a Web Server and the other as a Database server.

Has anyone know of any high traffic website currently running Zen Cart?

Yes, several. With the proper server optimizations you can handle it.
