expanding layout

Hi I was wondering how to get my page to cover the whole screen area right now there is empty spaces along the two sides.

I also wanted to find out how I can create and add new categories in the categories box, and edit the All products in there.

I do not have a new category button in category/products page, do you know why this could be?

I also have a message saying warning you have products in the top level it will not work properly in catalog
