Subcategory descriptions?

Is there a way for me to show the descriptions for all of the subcategories that display on the category page? I basically want it to list out all of the different subcategories with their description below them. I have tried a few things and have not been successful so far.

And here is an example of what I want to do, with the subcategory description on the category page, instead of the subcategory picture only, on the category page.

(it's not a zen cart but should give a good idea of what I, and I beleive the OP, are asking about)

I suppose I could just make HUGE subcategory pictures with the description in the picture, but I don't think anyone would hang around for that kind of load time!

I'm pretty sure its got something to do with

tpl_modules_category_icon_display.php

As this is the template file that displays the sub-category icons. But everytime I think I've found some brilliant way to display the sub-category description under the picture, I get the description of the category that contains the sub-categories.

I think that you can start with this module, I've seen the image (I don't find it now) and it's, I guess, what you want.
