How can I backup the DB for "configuration" in Admin only ?
What exactly are you talking about? What do you include under "configuration"?

I'm interested in this as well (yes, newbie here). I had to do a fresh re-install so I followed instructions to export, then drop all tables from new DB through phpmyadmin, but when I try to bring in the new one it says DB with this name exist. I then tried to delete the whole DB and then bring in the new one but it tells me username/pwd not recognized (although both old and new DB have same username).

Can I just FTP the old DB (I don't even know where the DB directory is...) and replace the new one?

This answer is assuming people have their own hosting and are using CPanel...

In your CPanel, go to your "backups" section...

It lists all your databases there...

Click on your Zen Cart database to download a backup...

If you ever need to restore the dB, all you have to do is the following...

There is a text box by the list of your databases in the "backups" section that says "resore" above it...

By it is a browse button...

Use it to find your backup file...

Then click upload, and CPanel restores the dB for ya...

Ok, what I want to do is to backup the "Zencart configurations in admin" from the database instead of backing up the whole database. My concern is that, after the new zencart installation if I import this backup part into the new database, is it going to create any problem? or is it safe to do so.

    Thanks
    Eric

you need to backup your ENTIRE database...

but that's only for a worst case scenario...

the 1.3.5 install will upgrade your database for you...

and if all works well, your dB backup won't have to be used...

    Eric,

I am not aware of a mod that will allow only the admin settings to be backed up for later restores.

There is a mod that will allow you to import and export your template sidebox settings. Have a look at http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...ayout+settings for more information.

The download link is in the last post in the above thread.

Thanks. I'll look at the mod.
