Default Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgradi

Ok guys / gals, I'm ripping what little hair I have left out. This is absolutely stupid. I've installed all the newest versions of PHP and MySQL. I get this error:

    Connection to database failed:

Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client

Yes my passwords, my host, and database name are correct. I'm running MySQL 5. I even killed it and loaded 4 because I heard that there "could be" problems. Still didn't work. It's running on a 2000 box with IIS 5. There is nothing on the forums about this. That maybe because it's so n00b and dumb everyone else gets past it. Please help... I'm dumbfounded.

    I FIXED IT!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

It was so stupid. I told ya. J/K it wasn't. I actually had to downgrade my version of MySQL to below 4.1. I used 4.0.24. One of my buddies told me it's because of the encryption in the newer versions. You would think the newer versions of PHP woulda' fixed that. But Oh well.

    Glad you got it going.

I should have taken the time to explain when I sent the link. (Kobra syas I can get verbose )
Item 3 on the link talks about the POSSIBILITY of 4.1+ working with PHP 5. It does for me so far but, nothing higher.
