Require Help for New Zenners

I have found some help on the wiki and in this forum, but would like to have a simple guide that explains where to find and how to change some very basic things from either the default template or a simple starter template.

For example:

remove text and links and info I don't need--got much of it, some other stuff is buried leaving stray stuff unrelated to the needs of my particular site.

change page title, text on pages--easy enough, but it's something everyone is going to change, so it should be spelled out in easy steps.

color--pretty easy, and again, everyone is going to need to change this, so why am I playing detective?

logo--not hard, once again, it's something everyone is going to change.

positioning--i don't even know where to look. I know I can deal with some of it with margins. As I add content I hope to lose the huge grey empty space, in the middle of my product page, that is currently surrounded by a ring of visually unrelated stuff.

change link text--for example, change "Home" link to "Store Home"

If I'm missing the link to such help, please advise me where to look. Otherwise, I saw that in the summer there was some talk about creating a guide for new Zenners. As I work through this, I would be more than happy to contribute to such a thing if it does not exist or is in the works. A good way to get good instructions written for any product is to have a writer try to work it and then rewrite the instructions based on the experience. I bet a lot of newbies are having eureka! moments figuring out things that experienced zenners take for granted. So I would encourage others new to this, and php in particular, to contribute a list of really common first issues to deal with and maybe those who have it figured out can spell out the steps, and place it in a convenient location rather than in a thread somewhere.

The following may be over simplified but its useful.

The Override System really simplified

Wherever you see a folder named "classic" you can safely add your own /CUSTOM folder.

Starting at the top:

includes -> languages -> add your CUSTOM folder
includes -> languages -> english -> add your CUSTOM folder
includes -> languages -> english -> extra_definitions -> add your CUSTOM folder
includes -> languages -> english -> html_includes -> add your CUSTOM folder
includes -> modules -> add your CUSTOM folder
includes -> modules -> sideboxes -> add your CUSTOM folder
includes -> templates -> add your CUSTOM folder

Replace CUSTOM with your own folder name.

Remember: only put files that you edit/change into your CUSTOM folder.
