Default Application of SQL Patch question

Perhaps in hindsight I approached this upgrade in an unorthodox manner:

    1) I upgraded the includes folder directory by doing a file by file comparison.
    2) Upgraded the admin folder, again with a file comparison
    3) Applied the patches found in the zc_install/sql folder.
    4) Reinstalled contributions such as IH2 and user tracking

Is this approach flawed, particularly the mysql patches?

It is still sitting on my home machine, I will deploy some time today...still looking for flaws.

    Thanks

If you use your browser and run zc_install/index.php and choose Database Upgrade and let IT apply the patches, you'll be safer.

The admin "SQL Patch" tool is not intended for system upgrades. It is intended for working with mods/contributions only.

Thanks..I guess I'll have to rename my admin folder back to "admin"...I had changed it as per recommendations. when I run the localhost/zc_install/index.php it complains abount not finding the configure.php

Yes, that's one caveat; however for the 2 minutes it takes, it shouldn't be a huge problem. There's no need to edit the /admin configure.php file for this process... just rename the folder.

    Thanks

I was glad to hear that i didn't need to change the settings inside of configure.php...Mind you that wouldn't have been a big effort either.

I did have one problem : I couldn't access /zc_install...kept giving me an error - said I should contact the webmaster.

I did look at .htaccess and uncomment the last two lines as it indicated - but still the same problem. I finaly deleted the .htaccess an every think went okay.
