    Default can't make a sub-category

For some reason I can't make sub-categories. I click on the category I want to add a sub category to and it brings me to the listing of the products in that category. What am I doign wrong?

    I'm using Zen Cart 1.3.8a

Idea or Suggestion Re: can't make a sub-category

Just figured it out! I have to change the status to OFF for the category I want to add a subcategory to. Once I do that I can add a sub-category. Whew!

You should not have subcategories and products in the same category. If you want to put subcats in a category, temporarily move all its products to another category, add your subcats, and move the products to the subcats.

Products and subcats in a category will cause pricing and search problems, and the most immediately visible problem that you will not be able to show the subcategory listing but only the product listing for the category.

Let me make sure I understand you. For a structure like the one below, I can only have products in Historic and Contemporary and none in Romance.

    Romance
    • Historic
    • Contemporary

    I just wanted to clarify.
    Thanks,
    Ken.

It's easy. Go to Catalog>Categories/Products, then find the line with the product you want to move and click on the blue M to the far right. Follow the instructions.
