    disaster my stupid mistake

I decided to install 1.3.5 into a subdirectory of my site. My intention was to setup and run it along with the current cart until ready to switch. I pointed the new version to the same DB as current cart........I'll wait til everybody stops laughing......as you know and I realized as soon as it started ~~~~~~~~ that it dropped my tables and overwrote the DB . Now it gets worse, as I don't manage the site day to day, the wife handles that, no one has made a backup of the DB since August 2. When checking the DB with phpmyadmin to confirm the disaster I did note that our bulletin board has survived intact as the tables for it are prefixed differently. So what I need to do is take the old backup and strip the tables of the forum stuff and insert the forum stuff from the after disaster version. When ever you stop laughing any hints would be appreciated. In the mean time I'll be in the corner sucking my thumb.

Well, are we still laughing.....don't blame you. Ok I did find a version of the DB that I export to my local machine on September 4, so its a little better. Now how to get the two versions merged.......

Have been able to restore to the 9-5-06 version of the DB with the up to date forum info. It required me to export just the tables I wanted from the 9-17 DB and save them, in like 6 different places. Then I dropped all the tables on the 9-17 ver and imported the whole 9-5 ver and then dropped the forum tables out of it. Then imported the forum tables that I saved in the first step. Did a little dance. The wife does not hate me as much now She said that 12 days missing is not a problem as she has hard copies of all the orders.

Still need info on setting up cron jobs

Glad you're making headway and taking the edge of the wife's rage. Hanging my head in shame, I have to admit thnat I've been doing my backups manually, whilstb transitioning from a poor mass market host to a great Zen-Cart certified one, so I'm off to research CRON too.

...just curious, doesn't your host provide regular backups? I have messed up in a couple of occasions, luckily my host had recent backups.

My host does a daily backup of the website directories but for the mysql Databases they want to charge for backup that they store remotely. So far its the only thing I found about my host I don't like, but I should have been more diligent in making sure everything was backed up.
