v1.3.5 Group Discount Total Wrong

I have a brand new 1.3.5 installation with two products and one customer...

My Order Total ordering is as follows;

Sub-Total ot_subtotal 100
Shipping ot_shipping 200
Discount Coupon ot_coupon 280
Group Discount ot_group_pricing 290
Tax ot_tax 300
Gift Certificates ot_gv 840
Total ot_total 999

My Group Discount settings in Order Total are;

Purchasing these products;

$10.00 Non Taxable Product
$4.00 Taxable Product (10%)

With a 50% Group Discount;


I get this;

-$7.00 Group Disount (50%)
$6.70

??? Where did this come from. Assumedly it should be total=$7.00?

What are your numbers with recalculate tax = none? Would you please post all your order totals so we can see the calculation?

The point is that I NEED to re-calculate tax... Otherwise the tax is incorrect.

With recalculate tax=none I get the following;

Sub-Total: $14.00
Group Discount: -$7.00
TAX: $0.40
Total: $7.40

This is correct. The recalculate tax works fine until the discount is larger than the value of the taxable item and then it seems to do something funny?

With recalculate tax=standard I get the following;

Sub-Total: $14.00
Group Discount: -$7.00
Total: $6.70

Group discounts assumes that your entire basket is taxable. The order total modules make
a bunch of assumptions to simplify the logic - and the assumptions are reasonable in most
cases; it just doesn't work well for cases like yours where there is a mix of taxable and non-taxable goods. I know it's hairy; I felt compelled to write a huge page on it as part of the Quantity Discounts documentation. I believe you have read this page

Bottom line: whether it's "wrong" or not to not recompute the tax is really subjective - many physical coupons (from newspapers, etc.) indicate that you are still responsible for the sales taxes. And doing this gives you the correct numbers.

The good news is that Dr. Byte has said that this area will be reworked in a future release.

Thanks Scott... This is the answer that I have been looking for, even though it is not an ideal answer at least I can now work out where to go from here knowing roughly what Zen Cart is capable of.

I was tearing my hair out tring to work out what it was doing...

I think this would be an update that would help a lot of people... Surely other sellers have had this problem???
