Default coupons and wrong tax calculations?

For some reason I am getting incorrect sales calculations when using a discount coupon code with multiple items in my cart. However, it seems to work correctly with one item in the cart. I am still using version 1.302. Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening? I have set tax to be calculated on shipping, as well.

(2 items costing $100 and $75 with no code applied)
    Sub-Total: $175.00
United States Postal Service (Priority Mail): $5.05
    TX TAX 8.25%:$14.86
    Total: $194.91

(2 items costing $100 and $75 with 10% off code applied)
    Sub-Total: $175.00
    Discount Coupon: ten :-$17.50
United States Postal Service (Priority Mail): $5.05
    TX TAX 8.25%:$11.96
    Total: $174.51

    My discount code settings are:
    Sort Order: 280
    Include Shipping: false
    Include Tax: false
    Re-calculate Tax: Standard
    Tax Class : none

Also, I noticed that when I add a third item to the cart that is a gift certificate, it adds the tax column in the step 3 checkout/order confirmation page, which lists the tax rate for each item. Is there a way to prevent this, so the tax rates are not displayed individually?

There is a known problem with tax coputation and coupons in 1.3.5. See

    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45213

One workaround is to use recalculate tax = none, include tax = false, include shipping = false,
or you can try the code change wilt posted.

thanks. i tried the workaround, but that didn't work, since i need the tax recalculated if the code is applied. but, wilt's code seems to do the trick. :)

Are you adding the shipping charges into the total and then charging sales tax?

I think I misunderstood your question.
When you said, "Are you adding the shipping charges into the total and then charging sales tax," you mean ZenCart, not the original poster - correct?

If that is your question, the answer is no - ZenCart does not include the shipping in the tax calculation by default.

Not to get off topic, but I'm in Texas as well and I've never heard of charging sales tax on shipping charges. Is that legal?

i actually have never had any sales from texas, since all my sales have been from out of state. but, i'm a little unclear if shipping charges are taxable or not. i read this online, but it still seemed a little confusing to me (look under Are delivery or shipping charges taxable?
    ):

I would be interested in hearing how people who live in zones that definitely do tax shipping handle this problem - do you simply gross up the shipping amount for tax and charge that much? Or is there a setting that I have just overlooked?

etoile03, could you not get a definitive answer on your tax question simply by going to the local UPS or Fedex and asking them? FWIW, Texan retailer Neiman Marcus has the following policy on taxing shipping:

"Sales tax is automatically applied to D&P charges in accordance with individual state regulations if your shipping address is in one of the following states: CA, CO, FL, GA, HI, MD, MN, NV, NY, NC, PA, TX, VA, WA, or the District of Columbia."

    http://www.neimanmarcus.com/category...line.jhtml#tax

I hope this doesn't mean Zenners are a bunch of scofflaws! :)

    Good luck,
