Multiple Customer Levels

Does ZC support multiple customer levels? For example, I would like the ability to have certain customer groups see certain products, and not see certain products.

Per-category or per-product security/authorization options are not currently a built-in feature of Zen Cart.

Since this feature is not supported, then can the following be done ? -

Option 1) Setup 2 Zencarts on the same server, installed in different directories, but Sharing a product database

Option 2) Setup 2 ZenCart installations with different installation directories AND 2 different product databases

I ask because I have need for a separate storefront/product listing for distributors/wholesale folks as opposed to the retail consumer.

For instance, I could tie the Retail store to my phpBB forum but leave the Distributor store unconnected and require a seperate user registration for it.
