    Cannot read webpage format

    Hi all,

my first post of possibly very many! I'm a current osCommerce user, checking out Zen Cart in the hope that it's easier for the end user.

I'm installing locally on Windows XP, with Internet Explorer 7. I'm running Apache, MySQL and PHP 5. The package is dated 4 September 2006.

I successfully get through the prerequisite checks, then I am presented with the URL and path locations. When I try to save this, I get the following message:

Internet Explorer cannot read this webpage format (HTTP 406)
The URL it's trying to get to is:

    http://localhost/zenbase/zc_install/...he&is_upgrade=

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have tried this in Firefox and this is what I get...

    Not Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /zenbase/zc_install/index.php could not be found on this server.

The same package installs OK in a *nix environment.
But I need a version on my XP machine!

Try the FAQ link above- look under server issues.

Thanks for the link, but I don't believe the FAQ answers my problem. I'm not getting the regular problems that might arise from a cgi-style PHP emulation. This is a 406 error, which I have never seen before.

I run a local development setup on my windows xp machine. I used xampp to setup the server. I had problems trying to have the cart directories outside of the htdocs folder, because I could never get the virtual hosts setup correctly. I gave up and put the zencart installs in the htdocs directory and everthing is great. I have 3 versions of the cart installed and about 3 different stores in each version to play with. Installing xampp took 5 minutes and installing a new cart takes about 3 minutes. phpMyadmin to create new db, drag and drop a clean copy of cart files into a new directory (i.e. zc135demo), and point browser to localhost/zc135demo/.....bang install away.

You should check the settings and configurations of your localhost server, it is a servr issue.

Searching by Google for HTTP 406, it will show 29,800,000 items.

i tend to agree with seethrou ... it's a server config issue.
you might try renaming or deleting the /zc_install/.htaccess file
or better yet, check the server's errorlog to determine what the actual error was ....

I see that as a hindrance, not a help

I have bypassed the problem by commenting out a security check in the Apache configuration files, running the install, and then putting the check back in again.

The error trap was in an additional security file supplied with the WAMP installation. It is a file that prevents the known hacks from getting through, and so it looks like the install routine may be using functionality that could be conceived as a hack!

The numbers already told that, there are hindrances in before. And most not directly related or caused by the applications.
