Canada Post multiple items issue

I originally was having the problem that a few people have started with where i had multiple items all being shipped in individual boxes when they should have been packed in one.

I figured out the "item ships in original box?" setting for each product and i thought all was well - instead of getting 3X the shipping rate for 3 items it was now much lower - so i was happy.

BUT - now i am seeing that the rate for a single item is much higher with the "item ships in original box?" setting set than if it isnt. For my single test item:

.15kg
25cmx15cmx15cm

- with "ship original box" set i get: $7.18 for Regular Post
- with it not set i get: $9.31

I don't understand the difference. The only thing i can think of is that CP is tacking on packaging charges? Is this correct? Is there anyway i can turn this off?

Just to be clear - what i want is to be able to pack many items into one box; but i will worry about the cost of the packaging material.

I believe you set the cost/value of the packaging portion directly within your CP account settings on their website. Their tech support can help you if you can't find "where" to do that.

hmm.. well of course i dont have a CP account - but i have just emailed them to ask how i set one up.
