Default MySQL databasa back - totally lost

Well I've looked over these forums as well as the forums on my server space provider and I'm completely clueless. This is the first time I've had to backup mySQL database and I'm still at step 1.

one person said to go to CPanel on my web server and click on database back up
Well, I'm using Crytaltech and there isn't any database back up or SQL database back up or any mention of backing up of any database.

another person said to install the plug in that will add a "back up database" button under "tools"

Well, I downloaded this plug in, unzipped it and uploaded to the server just like the "read me" said. Nothing happened, no "back up database" button ever appeared in the zencart control panel/tools. I've tried refreshing, logging out/in, and still nothing.

So far I've found many answers but nothing seems to work, maybe I should just stay with my ver 1.3.1?

I'm just doing this so I can install the newer version ZenCart.

So why can't I simply back up this database via ftp like everything else?

I've looked into PHP MyAdmin but I'm not understanding anything. Should I just start over or just stay with ver 1.3.1?

I understand it's important to be able to backup my database, but I'm not finding any simple answers in plain clear english.

    sorry for my ignorance

    Do you have a c-panel?

you cant backup the DB through ftp in most cases,

    login to phpmyadmin

select the DB on the left column,

now hit the tab at the top that says export.

its going to bring up a new screen with alot of choices,

you want to hit select ALL under the box with the list of tables,

now in the right column, hit the box that says add drop tables,

and a little lower hit the checkbox that says complete inserts,

you will now see the save box and a checkbox next to it that says save as. check the box and hit save. download it and you have a DB backup

    if you have c-panel

you need to select from the options on your main c-panel page

    Mysql databases

Once you have selected this you will be directed to another area. At the bottom of this page you will see a link for

    phpmyadmin

Click on this and you will be directed to your internet based databases.

Select the database you want to backup, then you will find an option to export database. Click on this. You will then be taken to another page where you select options for backing up.

    hope that helps

My Cpanel has link to MySQL admin, info, connections, query test and restore. Nothing that has to do with backup. There is no mention of PHPMYADMIN anwhere, that's what got me so confused.

Just finished downloading phpmyadmin right now. Looks very difficult. We'll see how it goes.

    Thanks
