Make life easier for yourself and install phpMyAdmin if it isn't already installed. Then you can go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin and create a new blank database easily.

also very new to php and databases... in similiar position. have gotten to the database set-up stage, have created my config file with phpMyAdmin and have moved it to the main phpmyAdmin file on my hosting...

i'm at the Database Setup part of Zen Cart Installer... the error message is:

Connection to Database failed
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) more info...



Not sure what to do! Any chance of any help? I'm sure it's something very simple that I'm overlooking, but as I say I'm new to this...

When you run the web-based setup with phpMyAdmin you need to provide your MySQL User Name and Password, which you must create first in your Web Hosting Control Panel.
