Default anybody know how to use phpmyadmin?

    OK,
just wanted to upgrade from Zen 1.3.1 to 1.3.5 but now I have to download/install special phpmyadmin software just to back up mySQL?
OK so I installed phpmyadmin, transferred all files to my parent dir and it tells me that it can't load or save configuration, please make writable folder bla bla bla.
I already have fixed file permissions to the config folder in the phpmyadmin folder on the main directory. ASPNET has read, write & execute permissions.
Everyone has read and execute permissions and I have all permissions. So what gives.
There's got to be a simple way to back up MySQL without all this work. And please don't tell me there's a back up button in my Cpanel on the server, because I've looked everywhere and there's none. Anyone else using Crystaltech hosting that can do this??

first of all you didnt need to download any php my admin

your host should have that installed all it is is a gui interface with mysql.

you need to look through crystaltechs manuals and forums, they will be the best place to have these answers,

if you are using cpanel there is a link in there called mysql
at the bottom of that page is a link into phpmyadmin

    1. I was told here to download myphpAdmin to do this

    2. You keep saying there's a backup button in CPanel. Where? On my servers control panel I have a button Database with the following subcatagories

    MySQL
    MySQL Admin
    MySQL Database Info
    MySQL Connections
    MySQL Query Test
    Database Restore
    Datasource Admin

Absolutely NONE of these mention ANYWHERE that there is a backup button.

Are you thinking of some application I'm not aware of?

    3. My host Crystaltech has no GUI that will let me backup my SQL database.

    4. If this is such a lengthy issue just to back up my rinky dink database (40 products) should I just start over?

    5. Lastly, what are the drawbacks to just staying with Zen 1.3.1? I haven't even started the upgrade to 1.3.5 and I'm already frustrated.

Looking at crystaltechs' site you use a different layout to the control panel. You need to use the MySql admin as far as I can tell. Grab a screen shot of that page and can help you futher

According to crystaltech knowledge base it looks like you can load phpmyadmin into your root folder of your site and after seting up the config file you would call it with http:www.yoursite.com/phpmyadmin/index.php On phpMyAdmin it is not a backup it is called an export.

It also looks like you can download mySQL administrator from the mySQL site and run it on your local machine to manage the DB.

After loading everything in I have tried http:www.yoursite.com/phpmyadmin/index.php but I just get an Erroe #2003 - Server is not responding. It goes on to say that I probably did not create the configuration file, BUT I DID! I also configured the file permission settings for this folder as requested in the documentation. I've already tried deleting everything and starting over as well.

I'm downloading MySQL 5.0 right now and will install this weekend. So should I delete all this phpmyadmin stuff from my parent directory?

    Thanks for the help
