Setting up test template

This is probably a retarded question, but,

Is there any way I can set up a test template that only I can see, while I work on it?

I guess you could probably install Zen Cart on your local machine with the related components and work on a template in total privacy. You could also install a temporary copy of Zen Cart on a subdomain and lock it out from public access, if you really wanted to. You could also find a free host to set up a test store.
