Localhost Installation - can't import database

I believe to import a 1.3.2 db to a 1.3.5 setup you need, after setting up the new(empty) db to go in and drop all tables and then import the old database. Then you need to run the installer again and only run the db upgrade on it. Hope I got that right.

Thanks for the quick reply. And my apologies for the double post, something was wonky last night and I thought the first one had crashed.

I did run the installer again after I imported the database, so there is a step somewhere I'm not doing correctly. <quote> ...only run the db upgrade on it </quote> I did not see a way to do just a db upgrade. How do you do that?

If you are working on localhost using XAMPP then there's no need to run the Install again. Assuming you installed Zen Cart successfully on your computer (using XAMPP) then all you need to do is to access http://localhost/phpmyadmin, tick and drop all of the tables, and then use the MySQL or Import tab to import the backup you took of your online database.

Ok ... I see the upgrade button, but at the bottom of the page where it says 'Install or Upgrade?' there is only a button for 'Upgrade Cfg Files'.

When I click that, I get this error:
1146 Table 'oldpine_zc1.configuration' doesn't exist
in:
[update configuration set configuration_value='C:/xampp/htdocs/teststore2/cache' where configuration_key='SESSION_WRITE_DIRECTORY']

So I'm still doing something wrong.

That is the procedure I used to start with and the db did not show up in the store even though all the steps along the way appeared to be successful.

I have been trying to import my database from my live site (Version 1.3.2) using my most recent back up copy.

details.....remember dropping the tables will flush the 1.3.5 schema, then importing the 1.3.0.2 db will give you a mismatch without the upgrade to fix changes made to 1.3.5

The BEST way to upgrade is to :

1) Upload new zen into a seperate folder and install with a CLEAN databse

2) Using PHPMyAdmin export your original database

3) Using PHMyAdmin drop all tables from your new database

4) Using PHPMyAdmin Import your old database to your new

5) Go Back to Zc_Install and use UPGRADE DATABASE

6) Reinstall mods / template / over rides

7) TEST TEST TEST

This could also be a problem in the config files because if install program cannot connect to the db to determine the version of the db it will assume 1.3.5 (I think) and I seem to recall something about the version.php, but don't quote me on that one. If the install program on the second run sees the db as 1.3.5 it will not give you the option to upgrade the db.

Just to let everyone know that I finally got it to work.

I finally just set up a new store, calling the database the same name as my live store database. Then when the drop tables and import sequence failed, I just dropped the entire database and reimported it ... that created a database with the name of the live one from my back up file.

Then, I ran zc_install and upgraded. The old working database shows up in all its glory in the localhost store.

I know I should be able to do this "by the book" and will work on that ... but for the moment, I have something that works.
