Unique Gift Certificate Issue/Question

I want to sell gift certificates for restaurants in my area. After purchasing the certificate, the customer should be able to receive it by email and print from their computer at home.

The certificate will then be redeemed at a local restaurant. The restaurant will need to be able to verify the certificate number as being valid and once it is confirmed, I will need to see that it has been used and update it to the database(to avoid printing of multiple copies of a certificate, etc.)

Is this possible with Zen Cart?

This sounds like something that you could do, but it would require some additional programming on top of ZenCart. I suspect someone could write a module that maybe interacts with the current Gift Certificate tracking tools in ZenCart (which are intended for digital/online certs). You would need custom programming for the part that generates a printable certificate image - maybe based on a basic template that you set up.

The present Gift Certificate functions do assign a unique code to each certificate and allow you to activate or deactive it....and once it is used it is gone...so I think that capability is there to work with.

And if this is for many different restaurants, your custom program would need a way to accommodate that - maybe different cert templates as well as a way to manage the gift certificates in "groups" assigned to certain restaurants...unless you plan to separate each restaurants into a different ZenCart site.

I see, thanks for the quick response. I have one other question as well.

I want to set a limit to how many items an individual can buy. For example, I want a customer to only be able to buy a specific product once every six months.

How would that be accomplished?

I'd also like to set a limit of total sales/day/product.

I have never attempted to do what you are describing and I am not certain if it might require some more customized programming.
