Keeping inventory

Is it possible for Zencart to keep track of inventory without displaying number of items available for all to see?

Yes it is,

in your admin go to: configuration\product listing, and set Display Product Quantity to 0.

Have you checked in your admin that you have configuration/stock 'substract stock' set to true?

Thanks a lot, it was set to false. Should I also set check stock level to True? It is disabled from appearing on screen. Also, since a web designer set this up and left me high and dry when she changed careers (don't ask), I don't know how to manage stock. Each item will need updates. Can you tell me how to proceed?

Thanks for your help. I've done that, but now zencart isn't keeping inventory at all. I'd like to track my inventory, but simply not let the public see unless I have to show an item is out of stock. Is that possible?
