Can Zen Cart do This?

Hello,

I'm very excited about using ZenCart for an ecommerce site I'm building for my uncle. It's a salad dressing company, with three flavors.

He only wants to sell either a 4,6, or 12 pack, and that's it. Not 5, not 8, just 4, 6, or 12. He also wants the customer to be able to be able to mix and match their flavors.

My question is this: Does zencart support this sort of product model natively? I'll only have one category, Salad Dressing, but 3 Products, Original, Italian, and Ranch. How can I set zen cart up to be able to handle this?

Is there any way to bypass zencart's shopping functionality, and only use the check out functionality? Would I be able to write my own dressing/quantity chooser, and juse use zencart to check out?

Thanks, any suggestions would help. I really want to use it, but he'll only sell with those terms.

No, Zen Cart is not designed to be just a checkout.

Well, I didn't want to have to do that anyways...that was going to be a last resort.

I really want to use zen cart, so does anyone see any feasable way to set up my product/quanitites in the way I described in the first post? A way that's native to zen cart?

You could set up the products to have 3 quantities available: 4, 6, 12. Each quantity will have its own price.

Then customers can buy 4-pack of Original, 6-Pack of Italian, 4-Pack of Ranch, and a 12-pack of Ranch cuz they like it so much.

As for mix/match, you'd have some problems enforcing cross-product quantities unless you wrote some custom code to enforce this.

The Quantity Discounts mod (available in the downloads section) will allow you to set pricing by total items purchased, so you can set the price for 4, for 6 and for 12. You would have each flavor as a separate product without quantity limits to allow flexible mixing & matching.

Enforcing the 4/6/12 will require some custom coding on checkout, to see if there is an allowed quantity in the cart and send back to shopping if not. It should be a very easy mod for someone who knows PHP well - you might ask for help on this. What if someone wants to buy 18 or 24? (I know, unlikely, but be optimistic :)

Oh yes - the customer can adjust quantities in the shopping cart, so since the options are few, you could just send them there. They can go all the way back to shopping if they want.

Thanks for that tip...I'm a first time installer, so I'm still learning the system. I know php, but I first have to learn how all the files interact with each other before I start including my own custom code.
