Using existing online images for cart

On more than one cart I manage, the images for the sale items are usually already on the website where the cart is found. If I try to use the existing URL of the image for the cart, the cart replaces the current image with an empty file of the same name. Is there a way to stop this?

While possible I think that this wiil be a difficult conversion. To start the configure.php call out where the images are. But then looking deeper this call is in many many files & some refer to the products & some not.

You Can look for this string yourself & see if you can work it out.
