    Default ssl: godaddy or geotrust

I am trying to decide on an SSL certificate provider.

I am hosting with opensourcehost.com and I am very satisfied with their service
They offer a geotrust ssl for $65 a year and with a dedicated IP at $2 per month.

I am also in the market for a couple more domain names and if I purchase my ssl from godaddy then I can get the domains for $2 a piece and godaddy has the turbo ssl which is less than $20 per year.
    https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/ssl/s...&se=%2B&ci=271

my concern I suppose is that the geotrust ssl is probably the same as the turbo because opensourcehost has assurred me that they won't need to verify my company info or anything besides the info I used to sign up for the hosting.

I am trying to get a merchant account right now through cardservices international so I will need an ssl soon. will either of the ssl's described above work for the merchant card service.

so do I save money and go with the whole godaddy thing? or am I better off with opensource host and geotrust?

if its only going to verify your domain, there's no need to spend $65 when you can get the same protection with a certificate that costs 1/3 of the price. I currently run a GoDaddy SSL cert, and it works perfectly fine. Will know if it works w/ the linkpoint stuff within a day or two, but I don't see why it won't

If you want a better looking SSL banner though, go for the Geotrust one :). Godaddy's looks cheap, which is why I don't even put it on the site

mafiasam, you know I've heard a lot of unpleasant feedbacks about GoDaddy. I don't know if they are true or not but if you're all right with your presentday host there is no need to change it.I'd stick to what I have.

OH I'm not talking about hosting. I will not change my host. I love opensourcehost. I'm just talking about the SSL.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I agree totally. Please let me know what happens with the whole linkpoint launch and the compatibility. That was another one of my concerns.

mafiasam, shame on me . I didn't undersatand what you meant.
As far as I know GoDaddy's SSL cert. merchant account works well. You won't have issues with it. Surely there is no sense paying 65$ if you can get the same protection for the less price.

okay I did a little more brushing up on the SSL's I was considering.

    godaddy - turbo - cheap - 17.99 a year for two year contract - otherwise 19.99
this is a low assurance certificate with a $1000 warranty*** and cheesy looking seal

positivessl - positive ssl - cheaper with a 30 day free trial - 14.99 per year*** - low assurance - no warranty - good looking seal***

positivessl - instant ssl - 79.95 per year - $10,000 warranty - high assurance (full site and company authorization) - free 30 day trial*** - great looking seal with a trustlogo***

geotrust - quickssl - $189 per year through geotrust - $65 per year through my host**** - $10,000 warranty - high assurance - my host will install it*** - has a good looking seal with the word trust in it***

so the geotrust actually looks like the winner here. I mean if I'm going to go through the process of securing my site I guess it's worth more than $5 per month but if my host can help me keep the costs down and get me a more verifiable and accountable option then I'm all for it.

thats good to hear man, glad you got a choice made :)

with my store, theres probably never going to be a single order over $1000, much less $150. I don't display the seal because its cheesy looking but I tell my customers that its secured, and they can check it too but clicking the lock and stuff like that. I didn't have too much $$ at the time to spend on SSL to I chose GoDaddy, but eventually I may upgrade to something better (like when sales increase :))
