Trouble with applying Meta Tags

For my site to be seen by others I need to apply meta tags and keywords. Can anyone please give some advice on why this is not working for me...I define them with the bio hazzard sign in catergories in the admin section also the meta tags php file. But when i try to search I can't find my site......What am I doing wrong?
I've looked at some posts in the forum and I can't seem to get what I'm doing wrong...my zencart version is 1.3.0.2.
