    Default Donation

I'm still not quite sure if Zen Cart is the product I need. I plan to run my site on an accessible donation system, but it appears that Zen Cart is geared primarily at the functions of ordering products and shipping. Can I modify the interface to function through a donation system?

Could you expand on the concept of a "Donation" system and what it is you are really looking for?

Maybe some kind of example would help ...

Yeah, I think dhermanus has the basic gist of the idea. It would be a price set by the buyer. (although I could always just set a few basic increments for donation, I suppose) The important thing is that there's no shipping of product. It's sort of a variation on a street performer model, in which my site (a games site) has services that can be openly donated to in order to support. The site is also geared towards extremely small increments, like nickels or quarters.

So for a specific example, a user would go to my site, play a game and enjoy it, and decide to donate. They would then go to a system - preferably run by Zen Cart, if the program meets the need - in which they choose to donate a quarter in the name of the game they just played.

I am not sure if this work for you. You can create one product call Donation or whatever you wanted. Then set the base price to a quarter. If a user want to donate a dollar, he can input 4 in the cart field. You will also have to create an dropdown-box attribute(include all games in your website) to let the user select which game he will donate to.

A second way to do that would be create a product and price it by attribute. And you will specify some fixed donation value with a attribute drop-down box named donation amount or whatever you might call it. Create another dropdown-box attribute(include all games in your website) to let the user select which game he will donate to.

    I hope this helps.

    Idea or Suggestion Re: Donation

I think that shouldn't be a problem fauris...

You can creat a product that is set as free shipping, mark the product
as free of charge... and set it's different attributes as $5, $10, $15 donation.

Or, set the Product to 1.00 and customize the tpl_product_info_display.php that when products_id = XX you want to hide the price and change the add to cart to read Donation Amount ... so it looks like a donation vs a Product ...

Couldn't you also add attributes to the item and place different values for each attribute? You could them all "Donation Amount - " with the chose donation amount in the name.
