    Slow Performance

    Hello everyone,

I just installed the latest 1.3.5 to a Godaddy shared hosting account and the performance is massively SLOW!!!! Going back about 6 months ago I had a test 1.2.7 site running just fine but that project got dropped. Now I have a new project and really want to go with Zen but for some reason Godaddy's hosting don't like it anymore.

Currently I have the site setup to use the DB for all caching (SQL and sessions). Using "file" storage is even slower. Sometime the site doesn't even come up cause it hits the 30 second limit. I've even tried "none" caching and that didn't work either.

I've read the other posts and I understand you don't suggest Godaddy as a host, but there is no detailed explination why. I understand Godaddy is a pain in many ways, but I've always found ways of dealing with it or working through it. They've also come a long way by giving users access to their php.ini files and a few other advanced settings.

So what do I need to do to get Zen working on Godaddy? I've looked at the code extensively and I don't see anything that requires a massive amount of resources, so a shared Godaddy account should be sufficient. I'm willing to dedicate my time and resources to get Zen to work on Godaddy because I see no reason why it shouldn't.

I know you probably thing I'm nuts and stubborn...and I am! :-) But I thought I can help in some way and contribute. Wouldn't it be nice to get Zen running on Godaddy!? What is the true issue...parse time? curl? network access? bad hosting setup? limited resources?

Here is my "test site" with a base install and demo products (if the page doesn't load, try it a few times and eventually it will come up): http://www.technologystorm.com/new-zen/

    Thanks!
    Anthony

    The saga continues.....

I just uploaded a fresh db and install to my Wild West Domains reseller account (Wild West is Godaddy's sister company but doesn't share the same network or support) and guess what........

    ZOOM!!!!!!!

So if Godaddy and Wild West domains are similiar with some subtle differences, what is the big difference that is stopping ZenCart on the Godaddy system?

I'm currently reuploading a fresh copy to Godadday to verfiy that there is an actual problem. I guess I'll keep you posted.

It boils down to resources available. Zen Cart uses a lot of MYSQL queries at the moment and if you are on a crowded server it will be slow.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

    Kim,
Thanks for the reply. I've been emailing Godaddy's support team and trying to convince them that their server is overloaded, or just slow in general, and they keep blaming Zen.

You would think they would take the hint and move me to a server with more resources, but thats wishful thinking. Looks like I'll be moving my hosting to my Wild West Domain reseller account where I have some pull as a reseller if I run into a problem. It's just ridiculous that I need to do that since Wild West Domains and Godaddy are the same company, but two different networks and divisions.

I now understand why Godaddy isn't recommended as a host. Instead of working with the customer to satisfy their needs, they dictate and point the finger. Thankfully Wild West Domains does have a different stance on customer support.

I'm still willing to take on Godaddy to see if we can get Zen working on their shared hosting, but it's almost not worth the time and energy....and I would need an army of angry Zenner's.

Oh well, for those looking for "Godaddy-like" services that Zen will work on, feel free to try my hosting services:
