    Default options with options

    hi all,

i need to know how to set up option dependent options.

for example... i have three check boxes based on type. after a user checks which type, i need an option dropdown box for sizes...

BUT each type has different sizes, so... the sizes available depend on which type the user checked. :-)

what is the best way to do that?

    thanks.

Sorry- but dependent options are not available in the core at this time.

Can you give a specific example? It would help me to visualize a possible solution.

    sure thing.

we carry dog training equipment (not petsmart stuff) but more for search and rescue, military, police k-9, and sport competition. many of the items we make come in different types of material and sizes.

so... one category of items is large 2 handle bite tugs. the customer needs to select which material jute, bite suit or synthetic and then based on that selection which size (each different material has different sizes available).

i wanted to have a check box option for jute, bite suit and synthetic and then based on which type is selected a drop down box for size.

hope that makes sense... here is another example.

we also make service dog harnesses. there the user has to first select size (sm, med, lrg) and then color (red, blue, orange) and then patch type (service, sar, do not pet, cross) and finally patch color (red, blue, orange).

    does that help?

What I would suggest is The top level category as Bite Tugs with 3 products - Jute Bite Tug, Bite Suit Tug, Synthetic Tug and then each product can have it's sizes. Use a similar 'drill-down' for each example. A bit different that you envisioned but still very effective and manageable.

yeah i was hoping not to have to break them up into separate products.

is there any way to keep them together and use multiple options???

what about the harness scenario. that is important to the way my customers purchase items: size, color, patch, color.

same with t-shirts. I have shirts that people need to select size, color, and picture...

You can do multiple options but there is not a way to tell folks that we don't have "this combination" at this time.
