You can go in and set Sale Maker to use the Categories or subcategories to make your sales, but the master_categories_id is used as products in 3 categories are the same price ...

Going thru a store and picking up the widget in Aisle A, S or Z should still have the same price on the widget ... so to manage this, while the product can be in multiple places, there has to be a master_categories_id as Sale Maker is designed to put Categories on Sale ...

So ... one ( 1 ) single category must therefor own the product to do this correctly ...

I understand your statement about widgets. But in order to put a category on sale all widgets I wish to have on sale must be under that category and have it as their main category.

The way it should be able to work is that any product listed under a category, regardless of master category, will be put on sale, not just the ones with that category as a master category.

My gothic necklace which has a master of necklaces and is linked to gothic should be able to be put on sale as a gothic product and if seen from the gothic category or necklace category still have the same price. However to put it on sale using gothic I have to remaster it to gothic. What a pain.

What I am asking is why is sale maker 'tied' to the master category rather than searching all items with a category of 'x'?

Alrighty no response in awhile on this thread.

I am currently using a work around by using a coupon system. The bad part about using coupons for a sale is that the discount is not shown until step three of the checkout process.

The interesting part is that the coupon works on an items complete set of category ids. Both master category and any linked categories. This means I do not have to go in and recategorize everything to give it a discount as I currently do with Sale Maker.

As a part time programmer it makes sense to me that the same code used to operate the coupon category verification can also be used in Sale Maker so it is not dependent on the Master Category for an item.

Feedback is of course welcome about this issue.

Does it mean that this must be change directly from the Database ? Or can we update it by removing the linkage then reset all product category ID then relink the products ?
What would be the easiest solution ?

    Thanks in advance

When looking at your Product List in the Admin ... say you wanted all Products in categories_id 14 to use that as the master_categories_id ...

When you hit C for Copy there is a Multiple Categories Link Manager and at the bottom of the page you will see:
Reset ALL Products in the selected Category to use the selected Category as the new Master Categories ID ...
Example: Resetting Category 22 would set ALL Products in Category 22 to use Category 22 as the Master Category ID
Reset the Master Categories ID for All Products in Category:
This lets you change all Products of the current Category so that the master_categories_id matches ...

NOTE: Backup your database before attempting to use features like this ...

    Hi Linda,

Using the feature "Reset All products in the selected Category to use the selected Cartegory as the new Master Category" does not change anything.

I entered "26" as the Master Category for all my products in Category 26.
Unfortunately, when I edit a product with the "attribute controller" from the category 26, another category different from 26 is displayed at the top of the page !

    Don't know what to do

Moreover, looking at the "products_to_categories in the SQL DB, category 26 is not in pole position for the specific products.

Please find attached a snapshot from the attribute manager and the link manager. You will see that even if the master category is set correctly in the link manager, this one is not reflected in the attribute manager, therefore the discount column does not show up.

I also checked that the "product_to_Categories" and "master_categories_id" contains the right id

    Any idea ?

    Thanks in advance.
