How to Use Document-General Product?

Hi,

I want to set up a product category called 'Manuals'. It is to contain the downloadable online manual for a range of products.

I thought that the correct way to do it was to create products within the Manuals category that were of type Document-General.

I created a product of Document-General and expected that the entered URL for the document would then enable the user to download the document.

When I select the product in my store, I don't see the URL and am unable to down-load it.


Can someone please set me straight on how Document-General products work.

Additionally if this is not the correct was to provide a page of downloadable online manuals, I'd like to hear how I should be doing it.

Document General are Products that do not sell ...

They cannot be added to the cart ...

If you make the Category restricted to Document General ... you can turn on the Documents Sidebox and you would have only these Document General Categories in the Sidebox in the same manner as the Categories sidebox ...

I have not worked with the URL for downloads ... it would depend on how you set the URL and the filetype and the directory you place these files in ...

/download is made so that you cannot get a download via the URL directly ... this is a protection against theft of downloads ...

I cannot see the documents sidebox in the layout box controller under admin->tools->layout box controller
