For the purposes of future searches, I got this problem resolved.
The issue was the Nochex account did not have a debit card registered, even though a UK bank account was associated with it. It is a normal free 'Seller' account - a Merchant account is not required.
Now that the debit card is registered, the full 'enter card details' screen appears for customers on my ZC shop, works like a charm and looks professional.
