Custom Product Type

Hello all - I'm new to Zen Cart and am having some trouble customizing the store. My client wants to sell comic books, zines and small press materials. Thus they want to be able to search and organize products according to information not present in the default ZC install.

Each product needs to have a title, author, ISBN number, bar code number (that's how they organize products in their physical store), publisher, issue number, etc.

Given my limited understanding of ZenCart I believe I need to create a new product type in order to do this. I've searched through the forums and the wiki but have found no clear explanation on how to do this. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks! I came across that book product type and it *almost* meets my needs. It provides for everything except the barcode info (which I might be able to do without).

But I'm not sure how to go about installing the necessary files and scripts. Is there an easy to follow set of instructions somewhere?

I looked at this contribution and it does have instructions with it. Not sure if easy describes it but I would suggest reading that long thread all the way through to familiarize yourself with the issues and fixes others have had before installing the contribution. You might be able to repurpose a function of the contribution that you don't use to handle the barcode requirement.
