Quantity Discount Help!!!

Please Help... I am lost on the quantity discount contribution. I have installed the contribution, but I am fairly lost as how to implement it. I have searched and searched these forums until my eyes are crossed !!

Here is what I want to accomplish and maybe someone can give me some basic instruction as to how to accomplish this.

I am setting up a soap and candle site.

On the Votive candles, we want them to be priced for $1.00 each, or 6/$5.00.

We would like to be able to mix and match flavors and once they hit any multiple of 6, have $1.00 deducted from the total.

But this can not affect the other products which have their own price points (with no discounts).

I was able to set the quantity discount to be 1.00 each until 6 is reached and then they are .83 each - but that did not quite work right... I could not get it to deduct a $1.00 after 6 was reached.

Please Help!!! And thank you all for all your help in these forums... they have been invaluable!

Discount units should be currency, set discount level to 6, discount basis total by category.
