Here are my settings:

I was able to do a fresh install of ZC in a subfolder on my domain so I guess that means it's really not my host. Besides my host has checked it out and says its not a problem on their end.

Would it be an .htaccess-related problem?

Whew! Ok now I see it is an .htaccess problem. A week or so ago I had modified it to block some bad bots (a la http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess13.shtml ) but strangely enough, today I went into Cpanel and looked at the hotlink prevention feature and I see the bad bots that I had previously excluded under the "urls to allow access" area for image files. Strange, I know! So I disabled hotlink prevention and re-enabled it, clearing those bad bots out of there. Apparently that messed up the .htaccess enough to cause my problem.

Fortunately I had a copy of my old .htaccess file around and so I simply reinstalled it in place of the newer one. Now I can add items to the cart again!
