"Invisible" category

Can any of the PHP experts give me a mod to category_tree.php that will cause a category (and all of its sub-categories and contained products) named "invisible" to not be displayed in the normal list of categories displayed in the categories sidebox.

I want to use this special category to enter subcategories and products, via the administrative interface, that will only be accessible if the product is referenced by html in internal or external link. I want to use this category to offer specials to select customers or to offer additional Free Shipping products when a buyer has selected a product from the same distribution warehouse.

Why not just disable the category, and then manually re-enable all the products inside it? That will cause it not to be listed.

Do you have a solution just as easy to prevent products in my "invisible" category(s) from showing up in the "New Items' and "All Products" lists?

You can change the products_date_added to older than your New Product Limit setting in the Maximum Values ...

But for the All Products you would need to customize the select statement so that it ignores products where the categories_id is exclued from the select ...
