    Default Dedicated/Valueweb/SSL.....must be IP based?!

I KNEW THIS WAS GOING WAAAAAY TOO SMOOTH!

I've got my store about 85% customized so I decided to take a break from that today and work on the ssl end of things.

    Here are the details....

    1. never messed with an ssl cert before.

    2. I share a dedicated server with another guy.

    3. web addy: http://www.mydomain.com

    4. store addy: http://www.mydomain.com/store

Turns out Valueweb offers a cert so I figured I'll just order that and set it up for the store folder. cool.

um, no. Turns out they only install them on IP based sites and not name based sites and you can't switch a name based site to an IP based site. greaaat!

Anyone ran into this problem before and if so, what did you do?

I just need to protect the store folder not the whole site. The only thing I can think of is buying another domain like http://www.mydomainstore.com and making it IP based......however the hell you do that.

    Thanks in advance.

if you have a dedicated server,
a true dedicated server then you should have at least a small range of IP addresses,

you can just assign your site to a new IP address using the servers control panel.

In cpanel this is done by selecting the view accounts then hitting the edit link next to the IP address, it will then le you change the IP address.

if you dont have any more IPs then you may need to order a block from valueweb.

    fromvalue web

Additional IP’s are sold in blocks of 8, 16 or 32 for a price of $8/month, $16/month or $32/month, respectively. Please note that 2 IP’s per block are used for internal routing purposes and therefore not usable to you. A server can have a max of 256 IP's.

Makes sense and I only have the one IP. Great!
