    Default shipping module/firewall port question

    Hi again,

In the Canadapost shipping module documentation, it says to open port 30000 on the hosting's firewall. I've requested that my hosting do so and they want to know:

would the shipping module be opening connections to that port, or receiving connections to that port on our server? If receiving connections, does it run a background process to do so? Please check with the developers of that script and let us know so we can better assist you.

i have no clue. do you?

    cheers,
    Marco.

I believe they need to open both UDP and TCP. Communications will run both ways.

    Hey Marco,

Did you manage to get this working? I received a confirmation from my host that Port 30000 is now open but Canada Post is telling me that they are not receiving any information. CP did some test transactions from their end and nothing worked. Did you alter anything in the configuration other than what Canada Post directs? Any other ideas???

Is the port open for UDP and TCP ? Bidirectionally, to allow inbound and outbound traffic?

    Hi,

My host finally got back to me about the port and it was not open bidirectionally. The problem is that they have confirmed that it is now and the shipping module is still not working. When I log in as a customer and go to the checkout I'm getting and error that says:

"Cannot reach Canada Post Server. You may refresh this page (Press F5 on your keyboard) to try again.
    60 Operation timed out"

Canada Post reccommended that "If possible have the ISP or Hosting company trace one of your transaction to see where the block is happening" but my host did not respond to this request.

Any ideas or next steps you can suggest would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help.

Doesn't sound like there are any other options besides waiting for your host to do it right.

Canada Post's system is only able to use that one port. They are not changing that.

If your host can't open a simple firewall port bidirectionally, you might consider switching to one that can.

    Hi Dr. Byte,

Unfortunately I'm still in the process of searching out a new hosting company that is capable of supporting the needs of a Canadian business. I do think it's important that I point out that the hosting company I'm using is JS Web and I found them through your recommendations. Of course I don't believe for a moment that their support is any reflection of the ZC team's (I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!) but I do think that it would be a great addition to your hosting page to add some notes as to the best hosting companies to use depending on the country of origin for the store being set up. Just a thought. Eitherway I won't be using JS Web as their service has been terrible so far and they even made errors in my billing that I had to waste time clarifying for them.

Thanks as always for your help and recommendations.
