Default WAMP5 as development server question

I wanted to install zencart on my local computer to learn how to set it up, so I followed the wiki on making a local copy. I downloaded wamp5 to my xp pro and everything seemed to install ok.

I'm used to doing my web development in html where you just double click on the file and it brings up the file in a browser. When I try to do that with the index.php files, they just start posting tab after tab on my firefox -- if I'm quick I can cancel it before it hits the triple digits...

I can get the different index.phps to run by using the http://localhost and entering al the necessary folder names. My poor figures are getting tired. Is there something stupid I'm missing here?

you should be using http://localhost/The_directory_the_store_is_in?/ to access the catalog
add admin/ to the end of that to access the admin login page

Do not include the htdocs folder in the url htdocs is the root directory so if your store is in htdocs/my_store the url is http://localhost/my_store/

I have my WAMP5 working fine. My local store is just about comlete. I'll be sending it up to the server soon.
Once done, I'd like to build my products locally and upload them to the server store. I don't know how to do that.
    Can I? How?
    Thx.
