Help with Attributes

I've been trying to figure this out for two days now--thought I'd ask for help before I go crazy.

I have a product that can be personalized, but doesn't have to be. I set up radio buttons for the type of personalization (e.g. monogram, names & date, etc), and I set up a text field for the customers to add what they want engraved on the product.
What I want is this:
1. If a customer doesn't choose personalization, then fine--No Problem!
2. If they enter text in the TEXT box, I want an error message prompting them to choose a type (Radio Button).
3. If they only select a Radio button, I want an error message prompting them to enter their text.

I can't seem to get all three of those working at the same time! How should I have it set up?

You would need to customize this as there isn't Attribute relationships at this time in Zen Cart ...

I too am having the same problem. Any leads on how to accomplish requiring an attribute to be selected before adding text for monograms?
