Paypal in 1.3.5 vs 1.3.6 - Backwards compatible?

Hi all, like many I've being suffering from lost Paypal orders (ZC 1.3.5, column view mod only and a minimal homemade template).

I've just installed a fresh 1.3.6 under a different account on the same web host, and it worked straight away.

My question is: Is the 1.3.6 Paypal module backwards compatible with 1.3.5? And if so are there any tricks in copying it back, or can I just replace the paypal module files?

If it is this is by far the quickest way to get the store running properly before I go through the lengthy process of testing and upgrading. If it still doesn't work then I'll start stripping out the overrides one by one in case something there is stuffing it up.....

I'd like to do this so I can find the root cause of the problem, as I start to build up a new 1.3.6 I'm going to put the same template and mod in (+ some more) - I'd hate to go through the upgrade process and end up with the same problem.
